Many domestic radiators still have a manual flow control valves that require constant adjustment and only one fitted thermostat. These types of valve are quite old fashioned now and have been superseded, certainly for new build properties by the TRV or thermostatic radiator valve. The thermostat will normally sit in a hall. The position is really not good, as the room temperatures around the home will vary and not be steady and balanced. Hence the perpetual adjustments of the manual radiator valves.

The Answer:
Fit thermostatic valves to all the radiators. This valve opens and closes without manual adjustment, purely by the fluctuations in the temperature of that room.

The thermostatic valve can normally be fitted as a straight one for one for the older manual valve. Greenford Plumbers can fit thermostatic valves throughout a system.

Fitting:
Isolate and drain the heating system, then, loosen the manual valve from the radiator by undoing its cap-nut. Before releasing it all the way, loosen off the nut connecting the valve and the pipe. Now, undo both nuts and lift the valve together with its cap-nut and olive from the end of the pipe. It is a good idea at this point to clean off the end of the pipe with wire wool and then place the cap-nut and olive of the new valve on it. Holding the valve in place screw the cap-nut onto the valve, ensuring the olive is sitting correctly. Do not tighten the cap-nut fully at this stage. A Greenford Plumber is trained on radiator valves. If required you can fit the radiator with a new connector, wrapping a few turns of PTFE tape around its threads, line up the valve and screw the cap-nut onto it. Tighten both cap-nuts fully. Fill the system, checking for leaks and finally set the thermostat valve in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
